Bio

I am Ivone Millirons. This is my third year teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at C.E. Hanna Elementary and Oxford Middle School. I am originally from Brazil. My primary language is Portuguese. I am also fluent in English and Spanish. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. I will be receiving my graduate degree in English as a Second Language (ESL) this spring from The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

My passion is to make a difference in the lives of English Learner students and their families. This is the primary reason I decided to go into the Education field, ESL. As an English learner (EL) myself, I feel I can have a great impact in the EL students' lives. I believe in treating students equitably and providing them with the best educational approaches that are available. As they say, “Success breeds success”, my students will be given every opportunity to have lifelong success.

A teachers’ job is never finished.  It is overwhelming, and takes lots of responsibility to assure that each student has been given the same opportunity to learn.  To me, it is a feeling of fulfilling my call as a teacher. Once that student has crossed my path, he or she will always be my “ child”. It is the best feeling to see the little ones becoming responsible adults and engaging in our society. If one out of all my students’ does not make it, it is not because I did not do my best to help that student.

I am more than a teacher for my students. I am a mother, counselor, friend and most of all; I am always there for them. We grow together, go through the challenges together, and fulfill our dreams together. My love and passion for seeing them succeed is ultimately why I chose teaching as my profession.
