Experience

I have taught art for over 25 years on Elementary and High School levels.   I have worked in Continuing Education at Jacksonville State University and Gadsden State Continuing Education Classes.

My years as an art teacher in the Oxford City Schools system have been very rewarding to me.  I enjoy watercolor and color pencil as well as creating pencil portraits and landscapes in acrylic paints.

Bio

My name is Anita Ambrister.   I have lived in Oxford all my life, and I am so excited to be teaching art in the school system I grew up in.  My husband is James, and I have two sons, Matthew and Newman who both graduated from Oxford High School.

I enjoy reading non-fiction and researching art history.   I am a member of First Baptist of Oxford and teach a Sunday School class.   I draw and sketch with watercolor and color pencils and like to do portraits in graphite pencil.   I paint landscapes in acrylic and watercolor.  My favorite summer place is my flower garden and fish pond in my back yard.

My husband and I enjoy traveling to New Hampshire and Maine to see his family where we go sailing in summer.   We also do solar astronomy and outreach in libraries and different public parks as we travel.

Working with children is a calling, and there is no greater way to help create a positive future than to teach.   Changing the world one child at a time, by helping them to see that they can change the future by becoming a creative person that is excited about learning.
