Bio

My name is Lorrie Owens.  My husband is Clay Owens, and he has a daughter, Mollie Owens, who attends Jacksonville State University.  Clay has his own business, Southern Heritage Fence.  He and I have a miniature Schnauzer named Gracie who is quite a handful!  We currently attend Parker Memorial Baptist Church at the DeArmanville campus.  In our spare time, we love to travel.  Cruising is our favorite.  Until our marriage in 2013, I had never had a cruise experience...now I can't get enough!

Teaching reading is my passion!  I love researching and developing lessons that will help students become critical thinkers.  I have had the privilege of receiving many awards in my teaching career.  I have been a finalist for the JSU Teacher Hall of Fame, voted Outstanding Reading Teacher of the Year, and selected to be a part of the Who's Who Among America's Teachers.  In addition, I have served as 6th grade reading department chairperson and the 6th grade lead teacher.

Along with the superior education I received at Jacksonville State University, I feel that my experience and professional development with Oxford has molded me into the teacher I am today.  There's no better school system for promoting growth and education in young people than Oxford.  Go Big O!!!
